Who knows you best?
Family? Friends? High school buddies? Neighbors? Are their observations all external or do they know your hopes, dreams, skills? Are you only known by the company you keep or by your parent’s success?
Answer: Your Savior Jesus Christ who loves you for who you are, his beloved.
What’s so special about you? Answer: Everything!!!
Enjoy this brief excerpt from Sharing Stories of Jesus with Children as well as my reflection and scripture reference
Jesus is rejected by his hometown friends and family after reading the scrolls stating he is the Messiah. Here he is leaving the city he loves with sadness.
Go Away
Church is packed,
all the pews filled.
Jesus at the podium
everything is still.
Scroll is unrolled,
scripture is read.
“I am the Messiah”,
his words are said.
Fists are tightened,
threats are made.
“He has the nerve
to claim he can save.”
This is just a boy
from the hood.
No special powers
this is not good.
He claims to be a Savior
sent from God above.
“Let’s rid ourselves of Jesus
the one we used to love.”
Nazarenes reject
the son of God, our light.
Now he leaves his hometown
to safety he takes flight.

Reflection:
Who knows you best? Family? Friends? High school buddies? Neighbors? Are their observations all external or do they know your hopes, dreams, skills? Are you only known by the company you keep or by your parent’s success?
When Jesus returned to his hometown of Nazareth and opened the scrolls to read the designated scripture, he revealed that he was the chosen Messiah, the son of God. The reaction of the crowd was disdain, anger, and betrayal. They knew him as the boy down the street, a child of Mary and Joseph, and a carpenter by trade. Instead of embracing Jesus, they threatened his life as they believed he was blasphemous. Assumptions were made, judgments formulated, and in the end, Christ shook the dust from his sandals and never returned to his hometown again.
Who knows you best? It is the One who created you. He instilled within you specific skills, a love for others, and a desire to glorify Him all through the work of the Holy Spirit. He loves you on your good days and on your bad. He loves you through your joy and sorrow. He even loves you on the days you don’t love yourself. You can always be yourself with God and know that he treasures you.
What is so special about you? Everything!!!!
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: 18 "The Spirit of the LORD is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor." 20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
